I’ve been away from my blog for a while. As some of you may know, I just released a new book for widows, June 1, 2016. This book was unexpected but at the same time timely.
I can’t say enough about this book. I believe it will be a blessing to widows and non-widows alike. So just know, even when I’m ‘away’ I am never really away. God has anointed me to write; to express what I believe is His heart through the written word.
I was sitting on my patio this evening doing some thinking. I was thinking about how I believe I sometimes get in my own way. We do this from time to time; we sometimes get in our own way.
I feel that God has gifted me, and equipped me with the tools needed to walk out my gifts. But for many reasons – fear, not wanting to rise above the crowd, wanting to stay out of the spotlight and stay in the background – I’m not always fully operating in the full capacity of my God-given gifts.
It’s amazing to me that I wrote a book entitled “Step Out of the Shadows” but I find myself wanting to stay safely tucked in the shadows. I’ve found a comfortable place for myself and I don’t want to give it up. But I must.
When God gives us a gift we can’t go and bury His gift. We must use it to His glory.
As I was sitting on my patio thinking this over, suddenly, I saw a bird soar through the air and over to the tallest tree then land on the very tip-top of the tree.
This bird stood there on his branch for a while, tall and still, while the wind blew all around him, causing the very branch he was standing on to blow in the wind. But this never fazed him. He stood there so confident and sure of himself.
I thought how amazing it was that this bird was doing what he was created to do: fly. And he flew with confident assurance that his wings would hold him up.
If we could all be like this bird. Confident that we have been equipped with the right tools to do what we were created to do. If only we had such faith in the God who created us. We are His creation, and we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
If the birds can soar, if the trees can stretch out and give shade to the earth and a comfortable home for the animals that reside there, and if the vibrant and colorful rainbow can light up the sky on a rainy day, then we – God’s most precious creation – can be equally as confident that the God who created us has gifted us with everything we need to fulfill our purpose. We have no need to doubt. We have no need to fear. We are truly fearfully and wonderfully made.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
